EARTH IS FEMININE
Caroline Bierly, 2020
Acrylic on canvas
For my final mural, I wanted to tie my two themes together. Upon doing some research, I learned that women are affected by global warming greater than men. In developing countries, women are the ones who collect food and water for the family, so when there is a drought, they may have to walk further for water and work harder to maintain crops. Of course, we also often call our planet and the environment "Mother Earth," which combines feminine qualities with the earth. So, I combined the symbol that is used to represent women, Venus, with some vines and flowers to represent nature and Earth.
